Overview

The goal is to change my existing website and make it customizable and add some new features.

Client have an existing website which he developed about 3 years ago. It gets a decent amount of traffic but it could probably get a 100 times or more that amount if only some simple changes are made. Client was convinced that it has an enormous potential and especially with its category defining domain name it could become a major player around the world. Currently The website is not customizable and you cannot login. So the goal is to change the look of it, make it user friendly, make it customizable, have different countries feature, different languages feature, different search features, add some new stuff, have a mobile app and so on.

Scope

1. A completely customizable site from both end Admin and Registered User point of view
2. Admin can add Features like Custom Search Engines, Custom Bookmarks.
3. User can customize their homepage
4. Change background with color or a Image or choose pre-available Images
5. Add their own bookmark
6. Add Edit Tasks

Challenges Faced

1. Dynamic data of the site – Data can be managed at both end Admin & end user
2. Lots of features to be shown on index page
3. Features can be customized and loaded base on who logged in
4. Site loading speed with dynamic data + default data
5. Large user base (about 13,000+ registered users)

Outcomes

Base on right inputs by client and best understanding of project scope by our team, we build a very Personal Homepage site. And over the time we have bring various features too.

Lessons Learned

With a good client and supportive and knowledgeable team, we learnt a very valuable lesson.

3. Following timeline is precious when we release a new feature
4. Testing from every aspect to make sure we deliver a good product

6. Open to any challenges + analysis of technical overhaul brings you close to the better understanding of project / feature scope.
